Clementine Ford, Hannah Kent and Alice Pung LIVE
In partnership with the State Library of Victoria, The Garret hosted a series of live […]
The Garret is a literary podcast celebrating the best writers writing today.
Season 1 launched on 3 November 2016 with eight Victorian writers talking about their craft. These writers represent many genres, and the common thread is their success. The Garret interviews the best of the best, those writers at the top of their field.
The Garret is not a podcast about individual books. And it is not intended to promote a writer’s latest book. Instead, the podcast seeks to explore how successful writers start, draft, edit, complete and market their work.
The purpose of Season 1 of The Garret is to celebrate some of the best writers writing in Melbourne today. Season 2 goes further, seeking out the best writers in Australia.
We have no hard and fast definition of ‘best’. We mean writers whose work is published abroad, has been turned into a TV series or movie, has a loyal fan following, has achieved critical acclaim, or has seeped into the public consciousness in one way or another.
This is the goal of The Garret: to interview successful writers talk about their craft, and for other writers to (hopefully) learn from them. Anyone interested in writing – wherever they happen to live – will learn from these authors.
The Garret is hosted by Nic Brasch and produced by Astrid Edwards. Nic and Astrid are teachers, and believe The Garret will become an invaluable resource for writers at all levels and in all genres.
Melbourne is a UNESCO City of Literature, and it is home to some of the best writers currently writing in Australia. The Garret was born in Melbourne, and it is supported by our community. We are proud to partner with the State Library of Victoria, Readings, Writers Victoria and Swinburne University.
If you are an established writer and would like to appear on the show, email our host Nic Brasch at nic.brasch@thegarretpodcast.com. If you have from the media, or would like to become a partner, email our producer Astrid Edwards at astrid.edwards@thegarretpodcast.com.
