Thanks to a special grant from The Copyright Agency, The Garret will develop teaching notes for many of our interviews. These teaching notes will enable teachers in secondary and tertiary institutions to use The Garret as a resource to help students and emerging writers learn about the craft of writing from some of Australia’s leading writers.
Nicola Evans from The Copyright Agency says, ‘It is a great opportunity for the podcasts to connect further with teachers and students.’
The Copyright Agency founded Reading Australia, which provides resources on Australian writers and curates a list of books that feature on Australian educational curricula. The Garret will develop teaching notes for our interviews with writers whose books appear on Reading Australia's list. These are:
- Graeme Base
- Isobelle Carmody
- Morris Gleitzman
- Andy Griffiths
- Anita Heiss
- Leigh Hobbs
- Tom Keneally
- John Marsden
- Christos Tsiolkas
- Don Watson.
The Garret intends to partner with the Australian Association for the Teaching of English to create the teaching notes. These teaching notes will add to the educational value of The Garret, which already publishes show notes and transcripts with every episode.
We - Nic Brasch and Astrid Edwards - would like to thank The Copyright Agency for its generous support. We have no doubt that these teaching notes will add to the fine resources already on the Reading Australia site.
